The buy-side is changing rapidly – with more assets moving to passive and MiFID II changing the way IROs interface with institutional investors. It is more critical than ever that we understand how the buy-side thinks. What will make them want to hear your story? How do they make their investment decisions? How do they consider long vs. short investment strategies? Are you prepared for even more competition for capital?

Our program is intended to help you:

  • Get inside the minds of investors with varied investment styles – when and why do they go short?
  • Learn how they are thinking about investment horizons in this extended bull market
  • Think about new ways to communicate with and gain attention from the buy-side given the shrinking pool of active investment dollars
  • Get an update on sell and buy-side relationships and how this dynamic is changing

William Marble, Managing Director, Dockyard Capital (formerly software investor at Citadel) – new growth-oriented fund

Alex Derbes, Portfolio Manager, Gilder Gagnon Howe and Co. – technology investor focused on underappreciated, innovative companies

Jillian McIntyre has worked and consulted for top tier hedge funds including Pequot Capital, The Children’s Fund (TCI), Perella Weinberg, and global investment banks such as Morgan Stanley and BAML. Her focus is multi-strat long-short equity. She has analyzed global technology companies since 192, expanding her coverage in more recent years to include growth companies within the renewable energy/clean tech sector. She was hired by the founder of TCI (London) a $16B (at its peak) long-short fund, to focus on shorts as well as longs. Her global network in the industry includes VCs, private equity and academia. She is a dual citizen of the US and the UK.

William Marble is a Partner and Managing Director with Dockyard Capital, an equity investment firm focused on global opportunities in software and digital innovation. He was previously a member of the Technology investment team at Citadel Global Equities, where he led research on enterprise software companies and managed a long/short software portfolio. Prior to Citadel, he was a Director with Bain Capital for more than 9 years, where he led public equity investments in semiconductors, hardware and enterprise software, and was a significant private investor in DocuSign, MuleSoft, Anaplan, Cloudera and BlueCoat. Before joining Bain, he was a consultant in the Silicon Valley office of McKinsey & Company, serving global technology clients. Dr. Marble began his career as a semiconductor design engineer and design center manager, where he completed over 30 custom chip developments for leading industrial and consumer hardware vendors. He is passionate about team building and shaping strategy in technology-enabled businesses. Curious and thoughtful, Bill brings extensive experience in developing business strategy, driving innovative analytics, and creating customer-focused culture.

Alex Derbes has been a Portfolio Manager at Gilder Gagnon Howe & Co for over seven years, focusing on technology-driven investments. His first-hand experience as a start-up founder and engineer, combined with his passion for innovative research methods, gives him a nose for finding under-appreciated innovative companies. Before transitioning to investing, Alex was an early engineer at NetSuite, CTO and founder of an internet start-up, and a researcher at NASA Ames Research Center. One of his current side projects, “Further,” aims to rethink the business of corporate access for institutional investors. He is the father of two children, renovated his own house, and is currently learning to fly airplanes.

Michael Stiller is Global Co-Head of Nasdaq’s Strategic Capital Intelligence (SCI) group. The SCI group helps companies identify and implement strategic growth initiatives such as targeting new investors, assessing activist vulnerabilities, advising on capital raises and optimizing capital deployment strategies. Michael has been with Nasdaq since 2012 and has spent his entire time advising companies. Prior to Nasdaq, Michael was on a buy-side analyst at a TMT long/short hedge fund and a macroeconomic volatility arbitrage hedge fund. Michael has his MBA from Babson College and his BS from Skidmore College.
