NIRI NY Explores Conscious Capitalism with John Mackey of Whole Foods Market and ESG Engagement with BlackRock and others on April 19th in NYC

April 5, 2018

NEW YORK--()--The New York Chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI NY) will host an evening program, “Conscious Capitalism with John Mackey of Whole Foods Market,” for investor relations professionals on April 19, 2018 in New York City (agenda below).

The event will feature a fireside chat with John Mackey, co-founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market. In addition to transforming how we eat and leading the natural and organic grocer to $17 billion in sales as a Fortune 500 company, Mackey co-founded the Conscious Capitalism movement to create a new blueprint for doing business with purpose.

Mackey will be interviewed by Wachtell Lipton’s Sabastian V. Niles, an expert in shareholder activism response, governance and M&A, and a champion of long-termism and sustainability in value creation.

Next we will hear from Hilary Irby, Co-Head of Morgan Stanley’s Global Sustainable Finance group, who is focused on mobilizing private-sector capital to address major global challenges. She will give a briefing on the corporate sustainability disconnect and how companies can better communicate their ESG efforts to investors.

Finally we will turn to the emergence of ‘social’ shareholder activists and take the audience step by step through a scenario where a company reacts to a shareholder proposal on an ESG issue such as gender diversity or climate risk. With real-time participation from BlackRock’s investment stewardship team and Calvert Research and Management, CamberView Partners will advise companies on how to engage with shareholders.

This is a must-attend event heralding the new era of making a difference while making a profit.

NIRI NY Chapter President, Rebecca Updegraph, commented, “Companies and their investors are the new change agents for climate risk, gender diversity and other critical ESG issues. NIRI NY is looking forward to hosting some of the leading thinkers in sustainable finance.”
